DAY 1: ISLAND EAST SIDE

GRAN TOUR MASPALOMAS – ARUCAS (EAST) – Friday 6th at 08:00 am – 92 KM

 

 

Stage Description

91 kilometers by the east side of Gran Canaria during the first stage of the Grand Tour, stage of moderate level. A legs test with several climbs during the route.
We will leave from the Maspalomas Lighthouse to the Plaza de la Constitución (municipality of Arucas). We will cycle by Juan Grande, Doctoral, Arinaga and climb to Las Crucitas in Agüimes where we will have a liquid refreshment station. We continue to Ingenio, Cuatro Puertas, and Telde where the main refreshment/aid station will be. Then there is a long and beautiful ascent through El Barranco de Las Goteras, which will be made more bearable by a few descents. After reaching La Atalaya, we turn left until climbing El Pico de Bandama, an old volcanic cone very well preserved and from where you can see a beautiful view of the north and southeast of Gran Canaria.
We continue cycling towards La Calzada, San Lorenzo, Tenoya and after a short climb we will reach the city of Arucas with its beautiful church.

THE ROUTE


Starts at Maspalomas Lighthouse by GC-500 Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, San Agustín, Bahia Feliz, Castillo del Romeral, Juan Grande, Vecindario, detour on Vecindario parallel to the GC-1 on the industrial area, incorporation to the GC-191, junction of Arinaga, GC-100 by Las Crucitas (first climb, meeting point and liquid refreshment station), Agüimes, Ingenio, Cuatro Puertas, La Rocha, GC-10 bypass to Telde on the bridge of the 7 Eyes (meeting point and main refreshment/aid station on La Plaza de San Juan), turn left to take the GC-80 towards La Higuera Canaria, Las Goteras, La Atalaya, turn right towards El Pico de Bandama, (second climb, meeting-point and liquid refreshment station), Los Lirios road , roundabout connection with GC-15, roundabout Casa del Gallo, turn left on GC-310 Jardín Canario, GC- 308 San Lorenzo, GC-21 Cruz del Ovejero, Tamaraceite, GC-300 La Galera, Tenoya, San Francisco Javier , Arucas, finish at Plaza de la Constitución of Arucas.

On this stage there are no sections with time control or road closure, while the passage will be carried out with the only occupancy of the lane of traffic, except for a section that due to its narrowness or risk for cyclists will be closed to traffic for the passage of cyclists for two minutes before and it will open immediately afterwards. On this stage there are three meeting-points, the first in the historic center of Agüimes, the second at Plaza de San Juan (Telde) and the third on Pico de Bandama.

We will have a welcome lunch in Arucas, as well as the transfer back to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Vecindario and the Maspalomas Lighthouse. Participants can leave their bikes in the secured area defined by the organization with surveillance.

DAY 2 ISLAND WEST SIDE

GRAN TOUR ARUCAS – MASPALOMAS (WEST) – Saturday 7th at 09:00 am – 123 KM

 

 

Stage description

On the second day of the Grand Tour we will continue bordering the island for 123 kilometers, this time on the western side till the Maspalomas Lighthouse. We will cycle through Arucas, Guía, Gáldar, Agaete, El Risco, La Aldea de San Nicolás de Tolentino, Mogán, Arguineguín and Pasito Blanco.

Departure from Plaza de la Constitución (Arucas), GC-330 to Bañaderos, then along the section of GC-2 to San Felipe, GC-291 through El Cenobio de Valerón to Albercón de la Virgen (meeting-point), GC- 292 on the right through Guía, Gáldar, San Isidro, roundabout link with GC-2 we take to the right parallel to the highway by the industrial area, link Hoya Pineda and take GC-293 to Piso Firme and Agaete, roundabout of GC -2, junction with GC-200 towards El Risco, section of the GC-2 through the new tunnel of La Aldea, GC-200 to La Aldea de San Nicolás de Tolentino (meeting point and refreshment/aid station), GC-200, Tocodomán, Degollada de Tasartico, Degollada de Tasarte, junction with Veneguera road, Pie de la Cuesta and Mogán, (meeting-point and light refreshment), Mogán tunnel by GC-1 all together, exit by branch of the highway and GC-500 in Taurito, Tauro, Amadores, Puerto Rico, Arguineguín and finish line at the Maspalomas Lighthouse.

In addition, there will be meeting points on:

  • Guia roundabout GC-292 with road of La Atalaya
  • Entrance to the La Aldea tunnel to cross it all together, with the possibility of doing 2 groups.
  • The Village of San Nicolás de Tolentino where will be the main refreshment/aid station.
  • Pie de La Cuesta at Mogán to cross the Taurito tunnel in groups.

Participants will have free transfer from the Maspalomas Lighthouse, Vecindario and from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to start the stage in Arucas. In addition, you can pick up your bike in the secured area defined by the organization from the previous day with surveillance.

Stage Description

Last day with 54 kilometers of route along the coast leaving from the Maspalomas Lighthouse up to Taurito and finishing with the free lunch buffet and prize ceremony at the hotel Suites & Villas 4 * (Dunas Group) with an invitation for all participants during the week.

On this stage there are no sections with time control or closure of the lane for traffic and the path will be carried out with the only occupancy of the traffic lane, except for a section that due to its narrowness or risk for cyclists will be closed to traffic for the passage of cyclists for two minutes before and it will open immediately afterwards.

In addition, there will be a meeting-point at the Taurito roundabout.
